On 26^th July 1852 the good ship SS Irene sailed from England, on board were James and Mary Derwent with their two young children, Martha and Andrew Binns Derwent, hoping to find a new and better life in South Australia.

For some reason the family changed their destination to Sydney, landing in October 1852 to start their new life.

There will be a family reunion in October 2002 (long weekend) to commemorate this important anniversary.
